The 27-hole complex at Staffield Country Resort was fashioned by Graham Marsh & Ross Watson in three returning 9-hole loops. Holes 1-18, Western & Southern, comprise the premier configuration which is supported by the Northern loop. Constructed in 1994 on the site of an old rubber plantation, the Bermuda-grassed fairways at Staffield occupy a gently undulating landscape where water hazards occasionally come into play. Sand traps are reasonably proportioned and sensibly positioned on all three circuits and greens are reputed to be amongst the best in Malaysia. A round on the Western/Southern combination begins with a right doglegged, downhill par five where avoiding the huge waste area to the right of the fairway should result in a comfortable par start. The first hole on the back nine also starts out with a par five but this double doglegged hole is a much tougher proposition, with sizeable bunkers to avoid on both the tee shot and the approach.
